Accessibility

We are committed to providing an equitable experience for all individuals by following accessibility standards, responding to user feedback, and providing support and accommodations.

We also welcome your questions in person at a library information service desk, or by text, email, phone, or chat using Ask a Librarian

Support we offer

If you have a qualifying disability that prevents you from reading or using print materials, we'll work to get an accessible copy of any item you wish to use from the library.

We have options for delivery of library materials as well as returns, and can help retrieve items off the shelves

In our buildings

Prepare for your visit to our locations with information about transit and parking, physical accessibility, and restrooms.

Computing options include adaptive technologies.

Library events are free and open to the public. Requests for accommodations may be sent directly to the contact listed on specific events.

Our practices

We are dedicated to creating inclusive and accessible environments, services, and products.

Our instructors educate themselves on inclusive pedagogy and universal design. We invite participants to request accommodations before a class or workshop session. We also update our teaching spaces, furniture, and technology using principles of universal design.

We incorporate accessibility best practices and guidelines into our digital design and development processes and aim to meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards.

Many of our digital resources are maintained by third-party vendors. We continuously advocate for better accessibility of these resources by:

  • Participating in the Library Accessibility Alliance through the Big Ten Academic Alliance
  • Alerting vendors of accessibility issues in their products
  • Negotiating for more accessible products
