October 11, 2021
Explore Indigenous Peoples of Michigan, a new section of the library’s guide to research on communities indigenous to Turtle Island (North America).
This section highlights Native communities in Michigan, libraries and language centers, colleges, heritage curriculums, student groups, and more.
100 million people lived in the Americas before the sickness, violence, and genocide of European settler colonialism, and their descendents are still here. Across Michigan, there are 12 federally recognized Tribal governments.
The broader Indigeous Resources research guide also provides a jumping-off point for further research into Indigenous language revitalization, sovereignty and governments, databases and journals, and other topics and references.
