Physical Exhibits
University departments and registered student organizations are welcome to propose exhibits for display in the Hatcher Library in one of our 3 exhibit spaces.
As the exhibit creator, you’re responsible for writing content, designing the display, assembling display materials, and covering any printing costs. We can offer guidance on exhibit design and give recommendations for material fabrication, as well as advise on installation.
Hatcher North
Two spaces are offered on floor 1 of Hatcher North:
- Hatcher Gallery exhibit space: an open area that allows you to create a customized layout using a moveable wall system. It offers the option to host related programming such as lectures and symposia in the adjacent event space. Displays range from semester-long library-curated exhibits to shorter pop-up exhibits organized by students and faculty.
- Hatcher North lobby cases: eight vertical, glass-windowed display cases that are deep enough to accommodate both 2D and 3D objects. Exhibits in this high-traffic area often highlight library collections, but also feature student and faculty projects that use library resources.

Please contact us at hatchergalleryexhibits@umich.edu at least 3 weeks in advance to discuss your exhibit.
Clark Library
The Clark Library exhibit space on floor 2 of Hatcher South hosts exhibits featuring maps, artwork, and other items that reflect on the geography, history, and cultures of the world.
A large glass case is available in the rotunda area, and the walkway is lined by three sections of horizontal glass-covered display cases with vertical display areas above. Your exhibit can use all of the cases or one section.
