Social Work

Our social work collection includes materials related to program assessment, interpersonal practice, policy and advocacy, fundraising, nonprofit management, research, and professional practice. We purchase materials addressing services for and the needs of all populations, with particular emphasis on children, women, LGBTQ+ populations, veterans, and the aged within a social service and policy context.

The collection supports the research and teaching of the School of Social Work, as well as researchers working in allied fields. Areas of collection strengths include community change, social policy and advocacy, nonprofit management and leadership, global social work practice, program evaluation and applied research, child and family welfare, work with older adults, and interpersonal practice in health and health care. Works presented in the contexts of privilege, oppression, diversity, and social justice are also important in social work materials.

The social work collection contains material in all formats, including print, electronic, video, and others. While the primary language is English, acquisition of materials in other languages is supported as necessary.

The breadth of the School of Social Work has lead to numerous meaningful collaborations with other campus libraries and programs, including the Taubman Health Sciences Library and Kresge Library Services of the Ross School of Business.
