Data

We purchase and license access to data in a variety of formats to support the academic research of faculty, students, and staff.

Data can be found throughout all of our collecting areas, and is discoverable through Library Catalog Search and research guides. Our specialists can assist in discovering, accessing, and acquiring many different types of material — including data — using their in-depth knowledge of a discipline or language.

The library data grant program is available to students, staff, and faculty who need access to commercially available data sets not yet licensed by the library. We do not acquire data that is confidential, or data that restricts access to a specific person or team.

The Clark Library specializes in locating and acquiring numeric and geospatial data, including data produced by governments.

We also provide data services to help you organize, visualize, and preserve research data.

Important related collections

We offer the Deep Blue Data repository to provide access and preservation services for digital research data that were developed or used in support of research activities at U-M.

The university is also a member of the Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research, or ICPSR, which maintains a data archive of research in the social and behavioral sciences, including collections on education, criminal justice, aging, and other fields.
