Request Return of Checked-out Items

If you need a library item that’s currently checked out to someone else, you can request it get returned by “recalling” it. This will change the due date for the other person.

Use the Get This link in Library Search and select Recall it to request a recall.

Instead of a recall, you can request a copy from another institution. This option also appears under Get This in the catalog record when an item’s checked out.

When a recall happens to you

If an item you have is recalled, you will receive a notice via email that shows your new due date.

Please return recalled books by the new due date directly to an information services desk or to an outdoor drop box if the library is closed.

If the item is not returned by the new due date, your borrowing privileges will be suspended.

Interlibrary loan recalls

When an interlibrary loan item is recalled, we’ll send you an email giving you 3 days to return the item. Items are subject to recall at any time.

Please return your recalled item to the drop box outside the Interlibrary Loan Office in Hatcher North. U-M Flint and U-M Dearborn patrons can return items to their respective campus library.

Items not returned by the new due date will result in your U-M Library borrowing and interlibrary loan privileges being suspended.
