Support for GIS on Campus

If you’re looking for resources around campus to support your work using geographic information systems (GIS), there’s plenty to choose from.

Get custom help

Across campus, you can find support from:

The library, which offers a variety of GIS and geospatial data services and resources.
The ESALab, if you’re in the School for the Environment and Sustainability (SEAS).
Students, faculty, and staff from the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA) — and others on a case-by-case basis — can get free GIS consulting services from LSA IT.

Become certified

You can apply for a 12-credit certificate program in spatial analysis if you’re currently enrolled in a U-M graduate program, or if you have finished a postgraduate degree from U-M within the last five years.

Join a campus group

U-M students, faculty, and staff are invited to join the GIS Community of Practice group, which meets periodically for presentations, discussion, and general information sharing around GIS topics.

Access licensed software

Most public computer labs on campus include GIS software such as ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, and QGIS.

If you’re an engineering student, you can also access software at one of many CAEN labs.
