Experiment with hand set type and book making supplies in our Book Arts Studio, which includes more than 175 drawers of metal and wooden type and a few hundred pictorial ornaments.

How to access
Access is mostly by appointment only. We also offer visits and workshops for classes. Please contact us at bookartsstudio@umich.edu for more information.
Open studio time — designed for both beginners and experienced users — is available during the fall and winter semesters on Tuesdays from 4-7pm and Fridays from 11am-4pm.
Extended access may be available to users who have significant experience.
Can’t make it to the Book Arts Studio? The Design Lab Workshop on Central Campus also contains a letterpress, typewriter, and other creative materials.
